Keijsers Koning Appraisals

Meet the Founder

Louky Keijsers Koning

Louky Keijsers Koning brings over 25 years of immersion in the art world to her appraisal practice. As a curator, former art dealer, and certified member of the Appraisers Association of America, she has developed a rare combination of scholarly depth and real market fluency. Specializing in Post-War, Contemporary, and Emerging Art, Louky approaches every appraisal with the same discerning eye and genuine curiosity that have defined her career. Her valuations are not simply numbers on a page; they reflect a nuanced understanding of artistic intent, market context, and the enduring significance of each work.

My journey in the art world began in the late 1990s at the renowned Paul Andriesse Gallery (now Andriesse Eyck Galerie) in Amsterdam, a gallery celebrated for launching the careers of artists such as Rineke Dijkstra, Marlene Dumas, and Thomas Struth. That formative experience set the tone for a career defined by a deep commitment to artists and their work.

In the early 2000s, New York called. I joined the prestigious Thomas Erben Gallery, where I had the privilege of working alongside artists including Senga Nengudi, Adrian Piper, and Jackie Saccoccio. In 2005, I founded LMAKprojects, later known as LMAKgallery, with Bart Keijsers Koning joining in 2008. Together we built the gallery into one of New York's most respected platforms for conceptual art. Over fourteen years, the gallery presented the first solo exhibition of Harold Ancart, contributed to the early career of Jammie Holmes, and showcased works by Jasmin Cibic, Liz Collins, Federico Solmi, Jen Stark, and Jordan Wolfson, among others.

In 2021, I took on one of the most meaningful roles of my career: serving as the first Director of the Estate of Barbara Hammer, the pioneering feminist filmmaker whose work transformed queer cinema. In this capacity, I oversee the estate's archives and champion her enduring legacy. I am also actively engaged in the broader art community, as a member of ArtTable, the leading organization advancing women's leadership in the visual arts, the lecture and education committee of the Appraisers Association of America, and the Advisory Board of the Pride Museum of Dallas. In 2024, my article on Ultra-Contemporary Art was published in Appraising Art: The Definitive Guide, Volume II, the handbook for appraisers.

My appraisal practice began in 2014, following the completion of the Appraisal Studies program at SCPS/NYU, and I established my own business the following year. What drives my work is the same curiosity and passion for art that has defined my entire career. Whether I am appraising a blue-chip painting, a Fluxus work, or a time-based media piece, I bring the same depth of knowledge and discerning eye to every valuation.

I hold two MA degrees from the University of Amsterdam, in Art History and Art Management respectively, a certificate in Appraisal Studies from SCPS/NYU, and remain USPAP compliant until February 2028.
